Sugar
Because it is a natural source of energy and free of all artificial chemicals, cane sugar from Honduras is used in different food and beverage products. This natural sweetener is also used to form a pH buffering system, and its properties and energy value are key to the performance of the brain and human body.
Molasses
It is produced after the process of obtaining raw and refined sugar, being a dense, blackish syrup that remains after the crystallization process. Various consumer products are manufactured from substances such as molasses. Thus, panela, whether compact, as has been its traditional presentation or granulated, powdered and even flavored, is even used as cattle feed, due to its important properties and nutritional value. In other places it is used as raw material for the production of alcoholic beverages such as rum.
Bagasse
As a result of sugarcane milling, the pulp, known as bagasse/biomass, is obtained.
Cachaza
Formed by the residues obtained in the sugarcane juice clarification process, it is used as fertilizer, and the ash, formed by cachaza and bagasse ash, serves as fuel for the mills’ boilers, thus reducing the environmental impact.
Ethanol
A project that the Honduran Sugar Cane Industry is making progress on since it is ready to invest in and develop it. With this, the focus is on achieving a national fuel and raw material to be mixed between 5 and 10% with imported gasoline, thus making the most of Honduran resources, such as national sugar cane and reducing dependence on foreign commodities.
Clean and renewable energy
From the combustion of the bagasse or “cane pulp” resulting from the milling process, one of the most important by-products created by this industry is created, electric energy. This reduces dependence on petroleum, thus contributing to the conservation of the planet.
